FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CANADA READS 2011 WINNTER, TERRY FALLIS, TO READ IN WHISTLER, SUNDAY MAY 29 2011, 7PM, MILLENNIUM PLACE
April 25 2011 Whistler, BC – Canada Reads 2011 winner, Terry Fallis, (http://terryfallis.com/about-the-author/) author of the award-winning political satire The Best Laid Plans and the recent Leacock Medal nominee The High Road will be in Whistler, Sunday May 29 2011.
The reading and one-on-one with Whistler author Stephen Vogler promises to be heavy on hilarity – Fallis’ first book won the Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour.
Fallis (who also heads up Thornley Fallis, an Ottawa-Toronto based public relations agency) offers a case-study in DIY for aspiring authors. Unable to interest a publisher in his manuscript for The Best Laid Plans, he released it as a serialized podcast, and was motivated by the response to self-publish in fall 2007. The book then won the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour, beating out heavyweights Douglas Coupland and Will Ferguson, and was picked up by publisher McLelland & Stewart.
After winning Canada Reads earlier this year, The Best Laid Plans climbed to #3 on Amazon.ca’s bestseller list and another 25,000 copies were printed. Fallis has promised CNN business correspondent Ali Velshi, who defended the book on the CBC Radio contest, a cameo appearance in his next book.
Fallis will be in Whistler in May as a guest of the Whistler Readers & Writers Festival, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. A silent auction and raffle during intermission will raise funds to support the October14-16th Fest. Tickets to the reading will go on sale May 1 for $22 through the Millennium Place box office.
