2011 Writer in Residence

2011 Writer in Residence

Best New Writer of 2010 and Commonwealth Book Prize and Giller Prize Nominee for the story collection This Cake is for the Party, Sarah Selecky will take up residence in Whistler this fall as the community's official Writer-in-Residence. Living in the Alta Lake Station House, Selecky will work with 10 writers on their own projects, between September 15 and October 15. She will also be one of the guest authors featured at the 10th anniversary Whistler Readers and Writers Festival.

Novice, emerging and experienced writers of all genres interested in taking part in the residency program need to register with Stella Harvey by sending an email to :Stella25@telus.net.

Residency participants will receive four one-on-one sessions with Sarah Selecky to develop their manuscript, and will also be able to attend group lectures on various aspects of the craft of writing.

Once accepted, writers must submit a short synopsis of the work they plan to work on during the residency, plus a manuscript of no more than 20 double spaced pages by Friday, August 12th to enable Sara to review the work in advance of the first meeting. The first meeting will be a pot luck introduction dinner where schedules for workshop sessions and one-on-one sessions will be determined.

The residency forms the manuscript-intensive component of the Whistler Readers and Writers Festival, which will be held October 14-16 2011. Full details of the Whistler Readers and Writers Festival 2011 program will be released in August 2011.
